Due to the European Championship Latin on the same day, the defending champions of 2011, Sergey und Viktoria Tatarenko, were not able to take part. After five rounds six couples remained in the competition and represented five nations - Denmark, Lithuania, Russia, Estonia and Germany. The blue ribbon, the compulsory present to the female part of the winners couple, has been awarded to a Danish couple this year: Louise Heise received the sash beside her partner Umberto Gaudino. Ranked in second place were last year's third ranked couple Igor Makarov/Anna Baklanova of Russia. As third couple on the rostrum came Henry Puusepp/Karin Lillemaa of Estonia. The reigning world champions and defending champions of the blue ribbon, Tassilo and Sabine Lax of Germany, had to cancel their participation at short notice. Therefore, a new bearer had to be found. Jörg and Ute Hillenbrand (GER) were the sole last year's finalists who qualified again. The 2008 winner tried to be catch again the ribbon however the eleven international adjudiactors ranked Sönke Schakat/Solveig Schakat at the end ahead of Jörg and Ute Hillenbrand. The first blue ribbon of the year has been awarded to Claudia Köhler Thorsten Süfke 07.04.2012 00:47 At 9:00am in the morning, the first couples of WDSF International Open Standard danced their first round. Among the 126 competing couples participated as well the vice world-champions and defending champions of Blaues Band, Benedetto Ferrugia/Claudia Köhler of Germany. The eleven adjudicators recalled four German, one Polish and one Czech couple for the final. Foto: Tanzfoto Bolcz Overwhelmingly by having received all best markings, Ferrugia/Köhler won again in Berlin and defended their title. Therefore, once again Claudia Köhler has been awarded the first of this year's anniversary blue ribbons. Ranked in second place became Anton Skuratov/Alena Uehlin of Germany.
